(Not wearing my convenor hat) I am aware of three attempts about
conformance testing for markup languages.

1) ISO/IEC 13673:2000
Conformance Testing for Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML) Systems

This is about conformance testing of SGML parsers rather than application
programs.

2) OASIS XSLT Conformance TC

This TC released the "04" Committee Draft of its test case collection
and then dissolved.

The committee draft contains more than 3000 XSLT scripts. They are
used for tesing XSLT engines.

3) XML Conformance Test Suites (OASIS and then W3C)

More than 1700 XML documents are collected in this test suite. (I
contributed some.) They are used for testing XML parsers.

I know that 3) has greatly contributed to interoperability of XML
parsers. I am not entirely certain but 2) has also very much
contributed to interoperability of XSLT engines. I am afraid that
I know almost nothing about 1).

Cheers,
