IS29500 Maintenance process and statistics

WG4 Convenor

MURATA Makoto

Maintenance of IS 29500 is underway in JTC1/SC34/WG4. The
maintenance procedures are described in the JTC1 Directives Section 15.

Defect reports are being received from National Bodies and liaison
organizations including Ecma.

WG4 is processing these defect reports, acting as the Editing
Group defined in Section 15.4.4. It follows the process described in
Sections 15.4.5, 6 and 7, with particular attention being paid to the deadlines
for consideration of each defect, preparation of the responses by the Editor’s
group and consolidation of these responses into a single response by the
Editor.

As described in Section 15.4.7. the possible range of responses to
a Defect report is:

• No change required;

• Further consideration required;

• Editorial defect;

• Technical defect.

Editorial defects are addressed directly by the Project Editor and
may result in incorporation in a future technical Corrigendum.

In the case of technical defects, special care is devoted to making
sure that the solution to those defects is fully understod, reviewed and agreed
by the WG members. To this effect, once the solution is finalized by the
Editor, it is marked “LAST CALL” for a final two-weeks review period, and will
only be marked closed and incorporated into future proposed Technical Corrigenda or
Amendments if no objections have been raised during this period.

As described in Section 15.4.2.2, Defect reports which
address defects to the standard may result in the publication of
Technical Corrigenda, while technical additions will follow the procedure in
Section 15.5 and may result in the publication of Amendments.

Technical Corrigenda are ballotted as described in Section
15.4.9.4, ie through a three-months ballot in the SC.

Amendments are processed in the same way as standards, see Section
12.

The Defect Report Log is maintained by the Editor as described in
Section 15.4.10.

Based on the data in this log, and on maintenance information
available, WG4 maintains statistics which are publicly available.
They give an overview of the maintenance work performed in WG4 including the
number of defects, their classification and whether the DRs are closed in a
timely manner.

These statistics are to be found at : ……
