Danish NB: Defect reports claiming "prior art"

I think that this is a good recommendation for all of us to follow; that said, there will be cases where this may not be possible. Given the number of implementations producing legacy binary files, it's sometimes difficult to determine the source/history of a particular file. So as long as this is a recommendation or best practice, I'm very supportive.

Subject: Danish NB: Defect reports claiming "prior art"

Hi all,

As per the latest meeting in the Danish mirror committee to SC34, I am forwarding input to the ongoing work in Working Group 4 (Office Open Xml formats).

Members of the Danish mirror committee has expressed concerns that merely mentioning "prior art" would automatically grant the defect/change access to inclusion in either a corrigenda or amendment of ISO/IEC 29500:2008. We therefore request that for future defects/changes claiming "prior art", justification in form of simple use cases as well as "step-by-step"-descriptions to reproduce the defect/change in relevant applications be included in the initially submitted defect report.

A (fictious) example to illustrate our suggestion:

[Example

The range of attribute st_XYZ is currently limited to integer values ranging from 0-255. The range should be from 0-2048 instead.

Use-case:

When inserting an image in a table in WordpressingML, the distance to the right margin is specified ... (and so on)

How to reproduce:

1. Add a table to a WordpressingML document using Microsoft Office 2007 SP2

2. In the top, rightmost cell, insert an image

3. Align the image "to the right"

4. Save the document to disc.

5. Unzip the file and locate the file /word/document.xml

6. The attribute st_XYZ of the first occurrence of the element <foobar> has the value of 2047.

End example]
