Thanks for the forward.

Do you know if the ask goes more than what our content part allows? The content part was designed to provide implementers the ability to introduce new ML, like X3D, into conforming applications.

Dear colleagues,

This liaision statement will soon be distributed as an SC34 document.
Although it was originally intended for ODF and will be considered by
AHG3 (and OASIS), we will also be asked to consider it as an extension of OOXML.

Regards,

SC34/WG4 Convenor

Subject: SC 24 Standards in ODF Format
----

Dear Ms Kimura,

In your capacity as Secretary of ISO/IEC JTC1 SC34, please note that at last years ISO/IEC JTC1 SC24 meeting, resolution 27 (reproduced below) was approved.
So (rather late - apologies) I am now able to make you aware of this resolution - requesting formats in ODF documents - which is reproduced below. This email can be taken as being the letter referred to in the
resolution:

27. SC 24 Standards in ODF Format
Whereas:

a) X3D is a widely used 3D content format that has been an International
Standard since 2004;

b) There is an apparent need to include 3D content in documents; and

c) ODF already references other ISO standards as content formats,

Therefore:
ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 24 requests the SC 24 Secretary to send a letter to SC 34--Document description and processing languages asking that SC 34 consider using X3D as the format for 3D content within ODF documents and asking that other SC 24 standards (e.g., PNG) be considered as well.

Best regards,

David Hyde, Eur Ing, DIC
Programme Manager
Secretariat of ISO/IEC JTC1 SC24
