Solution proposal for versioning problem

Norbert,

First, could you explain your proposal in out next teleconf (2009-07-30)?
Please clearly explain why end users need the proposed versioning
mechanism.

Here are some technical questions.

0) Compatibility with existing 29500

Consider existing documents that conform to 29500 (with amendment 1).
Practicallly, none of the them conform to this proposal.  Is this 
correct?

1) The definition of a version

What do you mean by version?  We now have 29500 and the first set of
amendments.  Suppose that we have the second set as well.  Then, what
would be the latest version number?  Furthermore, suppose that 29500
2nd edition is created.  Then, what will be the version number?

2) Interactions with MCE

How does this versioning mechanism interact with MCE?  Suppose that
the Japanese NWIP passes, a new multi-part standard is created, and
its part1 introduce kihon-hanmen (grid-based page design) using MCE.
Consider an OOXML document that conforms to both 29500 + the first set
of amendments as well as part 1 of this new multi-part standard and
further contains some MS 2010 extensions.  Then, what should be
specified as the version of this document?
