I think we still have to define "source part" for the "relationship" definition to work. I think I'm indifferent between your wording and mine (it's quite a tricky thing to describe) - does anyone else have any preferences?

This definition rather suggests relationships parts to me.
Part 2 already has:
relationship The kind of connection between a source part and
a target part in a package. Relationships make the connections
between parts directly discoverable without looking at the
content in the parts, and without altering the parts themselves.

One could argue that this is already good enough. But here is another possibility.
Source part
The part from which a connection is established by a relationship.
