The current standard for 18.18.76 seems clear and descriptive. The standard
currently says that ST_Sqref is a list of items of type ST_Ref (18.18.62),
and that type is defined as cell or range of cells.  

 

There's also new question in here about the ref in the data source for
charts (21.2.2.65).  As the standard notes the content of f is governed by
formula syntax as described in section 18.17.  It is possible to specify a
discontiguous range here, but the syntax for doing so is not the same.
