DR 19-0004: custShow

In fulfilment of my action agreed on the last telecon, I have checked the implementer notes [MS-OI29500]. Here is what they say:

2.1.1096 Part 1 Section 19.2.1.5, custShow (Custom Show)

a. The standard states that the id attribute is a number that should be unique within the presentation.

PowerPoint requires that the id attribute shall be linked to one of the custom shows defined in the presentation's custShowLst element.

2.1.1097 Part 1 Section 19.2.1.6, custShow (Custom Show)

a. The standard states that the id attribute should be unique among all the custom shows within the corresponding presentation.

PowerPoint further uses consecutive values when writing out the id values.

The implication is clearly that PowerPoint writes out custShow elements as per 19.2.1.6 within a custShowLst and expects them to be referenced within showPr (Presentation-wide Show Properties), which is consistent with the schema and provides further confirmation that the prose in 19.2.1.5 and 19.2.1.6 needs to be fixed in the way we have already discussed.

Folks,

I agree with Francis.

In the schemas, we have two different elements having the same name.

One is a child of the showPr element. It has the id attribute and

nothing else. The other is a child of the custShowLst element. It

has sldLst and extLst child elements as well as the name and id

attribute. 19.2.1.5 is for the former while 19.2.1.6 is for the

latter.

The example in 19.2.1.5 is a mistake. It is actually an example for

19.2.1.6 and should be moved to 19.2.1.6. An example in 19.2.1.5 is

already shown in the log for DR 19-0004.

We can close this issue very soon.

Regards,

Makoto

During yesterday’s telecon we briefly discussed DR 19-0004, specifically two elements with the same name, custShow, in consecutive sub-sections of Part 1: §19.2.1.5 and §19.2.1.6. I agreed to investigate further and in particular to check the MS Office implementer notes.

The implementer notes do not mention either of these elements.

After further investigation I think that what is required is as follows:

*	Revise the text of §19.2.1.5 as specified in DR 19-0004 (note that this includes a new example, which isn’t clear in the DR).
*	Replace the example in current text of §19.2.1.6 with the example in the current of §19.2.1.5, which is a much better example.

If this is done, the prose will align with the schema.

Regards,

Francis
