DR 09-179 WML: progID length and content constraints

This is in regards to the CH defect report.  Our proposed response is as follows.
DR 09-179 WML: progID length and content constraints
No change needed.

It is application defined to interpret the progID specified. In addition, there are multiple references within this standard that specify progIDs. Each reference specifies that the vale for a progID-like attribute is a string. Handling progID values is specific to a given operating system and therefore any considerations, security or otherwise, is out of scope for the standard.

Restricting the content of this attribute would negatively affect backwards compatibility as well as interoperability with existing implementations of the standard.
